Q. What is yoga?
 
 
A. Yoga means union of mind, body, and spirit. Hatha yoga is that special branch of yoga designed to bring balance and harmony to the physical which is the foundation and catalyst for vitality of mind and evolution of spirit. It has been tried and tested for thousands of years in India and is the perfect exercise for lifetime fitness
 
 
 
Q. WHY DO YOU HEAT THE ROOM?
 
 
A. The temperature increases blood flow to all areas of the body, which is essential in distributing oxygen and removing toxins. As with any physical activity, warming up Heating the room to body temperature (98.6 degrees) facilitates deeper stretching, reduces the chance the body is part of the preparation process that will increase muscle performance and reduce risk of injury. Warming the body involves bringing the body's interior core temperature to the surface of the body. When the exterior temperature is equivalent to or greater than the body's interior temperature, the process of warming up the body is aided and maintained. For students who have never practiced Hot Series Yoga the heat can be daunting at first, but you will find that this perception quickly changes. In fact, the heat is something you will look forward to, because it contributes to the overall experience and you will actually be able to feel it help your body.
 
 
 
DO I HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE?
 
 

A. No, not at all. Flexibility is only one aspect of the practice. Regardless of your level of flexibility, strength, stamina, cardiovascular fitness, etc., all these aspects of your body's fitness will improve with regular practice. The most inflexible person in the world can do yoga. We just find in each position the level that is appropriate for your body. With time you will learn to "play the edge" of your personal level of flexibility and in that process derive the benefits of feeling lighter, more energized, and less stressed.

 
 
 
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
 
 
A. Just show up! The classes are designed for all levels. You just work each pose at the level that works for you. (Sacred Music class requires at least 10 classes taken; please see schedule).
 
 
 
ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?
 
 

A. Yes, a few yoga basics:
1. Please arrive at least a few minutes before class.
2. Bring towels, a yoga mat, water, and be prepared to sweat! (Mat/towel rental available).
3. Women should wear leotards, workout wear or t-shirt and shorts.
4. Men wear loose fitting shorts or bathing suits.
5. Eat light 2-3 hours before class.
